The Invacare Matrx Elite Backrest w/ SuperSoft Foam combines the trusted postural support of the standard Matrx Elite Back with an upgraded foam package for users who need added comfort, immersion, and pressure-sensitive support. Designed for manual and power wheelchair users, this backrest provides moderate trunk and pelvic stability while preserving the upper-body freedom needed for propulsion, transfers, reaching, and daily mobility.

Built with the same lightweight 3″ contoured shell as the standard Elite Back, this version includes SuperSoft foam to create a more cushioned seating experience. The upgraded foam is especially beneficial for users who are sensitive to pressure, spend extended time seated, or need a more forgiving contact surface without moving to a deeper or more restrictive backrest.

Key Features

  • SuperSoft Foam for Comfort & Skin Protection: Upgraded foam provides a softer, more immersive contact surface to help improve comfort and add skin protection for pressure-sensitive users

  • 3″ Contour Depth: Offers moderate trunk and pelvic support without overly limiting movement
  • Lightweight Contoured Shell: Helps improve seated alignment while maintaining a streamlined wheelchair setup
  • Designed for Active Function: Supports shoulder clearance, transfers, self-propulsion, and everyday upper-body movement
  • Easy Set Mounting Hardware: Allows height, depth, and angle adjustment for a more precise wheelchair fit
  • Oversized Foam & Cover Design: Foam and cover overlap the shell edges for added comfort and protection

Added Comfort & Skin Protection with Familiar Elite Support

The Matrx Elite Back w/ SuperSoft Foam is ideal for users who like the supportive shape and lightweight design of the standard Elite Back but need a softer, more pressure-sensitive back support surface. The upgraded SuperSoft foam helps improve immersion, comfort, and skin protection by creating a more cushioned interface between the user and the backrest.

This makes it a strong option for users who need dependable postural support but may be sensitive to pressure or discomfort during extended sitting.

Easy Set Hardware & Positioning

The Elite Back with SuperSoft Foam uses Easy Set hardware to simplify installation and adjustment. The hardware allows the backrest to be positioned for improved height, depth, and angle, helping match the backrest to the user’s posture, wheelchair frame, and daily functional needs.

This adjustability makes it easier to fine-tune the backrest for comfort, support, and proper seated alignment.

Cover, Foam & Lumbar Support

The backrest includes a breathable, moisture-resistant cover designed for everyday wheelchair use. The oversized foam and cover overlap the shell edges to reduce contact with hard surfaces and improve comfort around the backrest perimeter.

A removable lumbar positioning pad is included to provide added lower-back support and allow minor comfort adjustments during setup.

Additional Positioning Options - Sold Separately

The Matrx Elite Back with SuperSoft Foam can be paired with optional lateral trunk supports to provide added midline stability, postural control, and upper-body support. Lateral supports are commonly used to help reduce leaning, improve alignment, and increase comfort for users who need more support than the backrest alone provides.

Available lateral support options include:

  • Fixed Laterals: Provide stable, non-swing-away trunk support with vertical adjustment on the back shell
  • Offset Fixed Laterals: Provide 3" of vertical pad placement adjustment and can be mounted higher or lower for customized support
  • Swing-Away Laterals: Include a push-button swing-away release for easier transfers, dressing, and caregiver access
  • Offset Swing-Away Laterals: Combine swing-away access with added vertical offset adjustment for higher or lower pad placement
  • Lateral Support Pads: Available in multiple sizes for use with swing-away lateral hardware
